101st Prog at Sundarban Paschim Gabtala Sishu Siksha Niketan on 27.07.2025 with financial help from Kumar P.N.Roy Public Charitable Trust.
This is a school with a broken fence where 140 students (Classes I to III) take lessons everyday and all the students come from very poor families and they live below poverty levels. Almost one year and a half ago, we visited the school and had talks with the teachers there (One head mistress and three teachers). We found the students take lessons on the plastic sheets, no fan, no light, no black board, no drinking water. In one word the school is just “unreadable”.
Immediately within two months our Executive Committee has taken a decision to supply some accessories so that the students can get minimum access to education and we supplied three fans, three black boards, books, chalk pencils, slates, exercise books, pens, pencils etc.etc.
During the discussions we came to know from the head mistress that the land of the school owns by one individual, who has agreed to make a gift deed in the name of the school very soon so that social organisations/ngos can help and make the school readable. Since the village people are living below poverty level, all the teachers requested us to organise an awareness program on menstrual health and hygiene and replied them in affirmative.
On 27th July 2025, we conducted the awareness program among 150 girls/young women as requested by the teachers within the school premises. The program was excellent as our lively lady brigade has nicely elaborated the need for good health and in return the shy girls also joined the interactive sessions and found the program effective.
We have given them following gifts :
- Sanitary Napkins sufficient for six months ;
- Two undergarments each ;
- One packet Surf ;
- One bath soap;
- Three LED Tube Lights with fittings for the school.
Also we served tiffin and a bottle of drinking water to every participant, as we do on all our programs.
We convey our sincere gratitude to Mr Benimadhab Roy, Managing Trustee and other trustee members of the trust for funding the program.
A hectic journey took 13 hours to complete the program.
